Cardinal Provisions – Asbury Park, New Jersey

We’ve attempted to brunch at Cardinal Provisions for a few weeks now, but there was always a line longer than we were willing to wait, considering after Crossfit we are all ravenous vultures. This time our wait flew by since we brought a snack, popped in the spot across the street for coffee, and were distracted by the Pride parade rolling down Cookman Avenue. Before we knew it, we got the phone call that our table was ready and we pranced on over with our new rainbow accessories for a very expected delicious meal.

Amongst the four of us, we ordered the Ranchos Relaxos (sautéed peppers, tomatoes, beans, cilantro, sour cream, lime, topped with a sunny side up, and complemented with a few tortilla chips), two Weird Hashes (potato wedges, roasted carrots and green beans, sage sausage bits, herbs, with a sunny side up egg, and pecorino Romano cheese grated on top), and the Chicken and Waffles (fried chicken atop of a waffle with maple poblano relish, and a dill yogurt sauce). We also got a side of Marinated Greens.

Everything came out looking very pretty. We weren’t sure if their hot sauce was homemade, but it was certainly spicy and right up our alley. Each dish was great and fresh, but the most inviting had to be the chicken and waffles. It looked and tasted extremely unique. The waffle was fluffy and buttery and everything a waffle should be. The dill flavor was very potent which enhanced the normal chicken and waffles’ already interesting flavor profile. We would definitely recommend it. The breakfast portions were a little small for their above average prices, but that would not deter us from coming back and trying other options.
