Ippin Ramen – Oakhurst, New Jersey

We were thrilled when Ippin Ramen opened in Oakhurst, because before this location, we had to travel far and wide for Ramen noodles.

Ramen is one of Japan’s favorite dishes and it is one of ours, as well. Unlike any Asian soup, Ramen soups contain such bold flavors and textures and every bite is a surprise. You don’t have to be too adventurous to enjoy Ramen though. Although most of the soups come with crispy, salty seaweed, fish cakes (just like the emoji), shredded shiitake mushrooms and a gooey soft-boiled egg on top, you can always get yours without any of that. The Tonkotsu variety, which is Japan’s standard, uses a pork broth base made from bone marrow and fat and it is a multi-step process. There are other broths available for meat haters and spice lovers (like me!) and at Ippin Ramen, you really can’t go wrong. We recommend the Beef Sukiyaki Ramen with the spicy broth.

Although we expected the soup to be delicious, we were blown away by the quality of their fried rice. The rice actually starts white (unlike a lot of Asian restaurants) and is crunchy and hearty. It is a MUST GET! Heads up that it comes with meat.

The most recent time we were there, we ordered the chicken buns, which we were also very impressed with. They were really juicy and we would order them again.
