When you think of the perfect sub, you imagine great bread, fresh ingredients and attention to detail. Well, this place exceeds all of those expectations!
Vintage Subs is a quaint family owned classic sub shop in the heart of Asbury Park. Located right on Cookman, you’ll find their place sharing the space with an art gallery. When you enter, you’re immediately drawn to the unique layout and the fun atmosphere. Their collaboration gives the place character and makes it stand out from the other sandwich shops in town.
We decided to order their #2, classic Italian and their grilled chicken, avocado, and bacon special.
The Italian sub was delicious. The bread that they get fresh from a bakery up North every morning, is the perfect choice. It’s light but just doughy enough and your sandwich stays in tact with every bite, unlike some other breads. We both noticed that everything was sliced paper thin. From the meat and cheese to the onions, lettuce, tomato and pickle, this technique really brought all of the flavors together. We often find ourselves throwing on all of the condiments in the world to any food we eat. With this sandwich, we didn’t miss the mayo, mustard or the “extra vinegar” we usually find necessary; the ingredients speak for themselves.
Their grilled chicken special was fresh and satisfying. This sandwich was designed for people who are a little bit more health conscious, without sacrificing flavor and quality.
They also offer soup and sandwich combinations. The day we went, they had their homemade chili which was comforting on a freezing day. It had a perfect level of heat without it being too spicy.
The family, Nick Evangelista, Eddy Sousa and Pedro Sousa were all so welcoming and down to Earth. We learned about their business and shared recommendations for other local Asbury Park establishments. We really enjoyed this experience and are looking forward to coming back.
Be sure to stop by next time you’re in the neighborhood! You won’t regret it!
